Longy’s Sistema Side by Side gave their first performance of the year in October. For the first time three ensembles were featured, the symphony orchestra, and the new string orchestra and wind ensemble. BSA students represent a large portion of the string sections.
BSA parents organized a very fun outing to the Tree Top Adventures. Students, parents and teachers enjoyed zip lining down the trees!
BSA students joined a selected group from Longy’s Sistema Side by Side Orchestra to perform under the renown conductor, maestro Gustavo Dudamel, in an open rehearsal setting. This was part of The Creative Class series by Harvard University at Sanders Theater.
BSA’s newest site addition debuted in December at the St. Patrick Church in Roxbury, MA. Our advanced ensemble joined them in the celebration. The Roxbury program had just started in October, 2016.
Our students from the Chinatown program and others coming from further away, performed their solos accompanied by piano in December at the beautiful hall at the Carriage House Violins of Johnson String Instrument. Bravo to all of them!

In February, for the fist time BSA hosted a two-day workshop on the fantastic Colourstrings Method as part of the Dare to Aspire initiative. Colourstrings specialist, Yvonne Frye, engaged all the attendees through a wonderful introduction to this very unique approach to string teaching. The workshop was free of charge
The second Side by Side performance was a great success, it took place at the First Church of Cambridge. Great to see how the students grow from one performance to the next.
To close the Sistema Side by Side season, in March, the students performed at the Sanders Theater as part of Longy’s glamorous Gala celebration, featuring LA Phil violinist, Vijay Gupta.
